On the road for the next two days delivering and collecting various alpacas. First stop was North West Alpacas to drop off a female for a breeding and then eventual collection by her new owner.
Northwest stop breeding their females on November 1st. So it was pretty quiet (and very wet) at their place. Didn't get to see Mike as he was in Canada for a few days before heading off to darkest Peru.
Next stop was at Pucara International to see Jude Anderson and Alan Cousill. I had two pregnant females to collect (Joni and Divinity) and three open alpaca females to drop off again for late breedings (Latte, Minnie and Southern Cross)...as I said in an earlier post breedings do expand to fill the time available....
Al and Jude's place is really coming on and is well worth a visit if you are ever near McMinnville just SW of Portland.
www.pucara-international.com . If you don't know them Alan Cousill and Jude Anderson are the Australian owners of Pucara International. Their new 103 acre facility in Oregon is the home of huacaya and suri selected and bred with 14 years of alpaca farming experience both in the US and Australia. The suri herd is based on the exceptional US genetics Pucara used to dominate the Australian suri show scene . The huacaya are based on genetics that have been sourced from throughout the US.
Juda and Al are just back from Australia where they attended the Australian Alpaca National Show at least three of this years winners were the product of alpaca Embryo Transfer (ET) which is becoming increasingly popular in Australia and a cost effective way to accelerate herd improvement. Maybe something we will see in North America one day soon.
