The temperature touched a roasting 97 degrees today which is very hot by my English standards! Certainly too hot to work outside in the heat of the day. Fortuanately for the alpacas the humidity was down at 20% and they had of course been sheared the week before. Perfect tiiming on our part
The day started with a trip to the accountant to provide details for our tax return. I am really keen to get our first year of accounts approved and filed. There are several reasons; firstly we are in line for a rebate as we have spent so much establishing Mulberry Alpacas. Secondly, Jackson County want to see a copy of our filing to be satisfied that we are running a viable farming operation. We live on EFU (Essential Farm Use) land so pay much reduced taxes.
Finally, to progress our immigration application we need accounts to show that we are tracking our original business plan.
We have a buyer quite interested in one of our intact male alpacas so tonight we took several pictures to illustrate his level of conformation and appearance. It is one of the amazing advantages of the internet and digital cameras that alpaca buyers can ask you what the bite and conformation look like and you can send them clear colour pictures that cost almost nothing to produce...quite amazing and now an essential part of any alpaca breeding operation.
