Today has been one of those really productive days on the alpaca farm that comes along every once in a while. The weather has been just great a very pleasant mid 60's type of spring day. Its now 6pm and 62 degrees so putting the clocks forward earlier certainly works for me.
There wasn't much wind so no open or barrel burning were permitted , to protect the air quality. I felt thwarted!
Macario concentrated on building a flight of steps down from the house to the chicken coup and has done an amazing job using rocks we pulled out of the alpaca pastures. He has a real talent.
As I couldn't satisfy my pyrotechnic tendencies I locked myself away with the PC and hammered out the alpaca article (alpacas 101) that I have to submit to Hobby Farms magazine by the end of the month. I think it is a record time for me to produce 3,000 words unless you count the time I had Saturday morning detention back in 1967 when I did 3,000 words in two hours... and it reds pretty well if I say so myself.
Tomorrow I need to get out and about on the farm and spray some of the fence lines while the weather is warm and the growth nice and young.
I have kept the alpacas out of their winter pasture as they were eating the grass quite short and this has two consequences. If there is less than three inches of growth it takes the grass longer to get going once the warm weather arrives, and second if it remains rainless the ground will dry right out and crack very easily.
Some fellow alpaca farmers are advocating the use of shredded cardboard for alpaca bedding so I will write up some information for the Blog tomorrow just in case any of you are interested..and I know you will be!
Well that's about it for today I am running late so better go feed the girls and boys their Silver Rose secret recipe alpaca feed.
