Several people have e-mailed to ask about the half shorn alpaca, which I featured in the Blog on Monday of this week.
Yes, it really was half shorn and in the following pictures you can see it first from the unshorn side and then from the shorn side…and yes after we took the pictures we did complete the shearing.
Next year I think we will repeat the experiment but with a smaller alpaca and one with a longer staple length as that will make the picture much more dramatic…..and of course this is something you can try on your own alpaca ranch when you have shearing day then whizz the pictures off to your local paper….you just never know you might get yourself some free publicity….
Always best to check this out with your shearer, we pay Allan by the hour so he doesn’t care if he is shearing or waiting while we take pictures of half shorn alpacas….but if you are paying your shearer per alpaca then he (or she) may get a bit miffed if you don’t check this out before shearing gets underway.
