Having arrived back from our sojourn to Portland in the early hours of the morning I am not firing on all cylinders today…. nothing quite like caffeine to sort out a misfire…and caffeine is what I will be having!
On the way out of Portland we swung by
North West Alpacas and had dinner with Mike Safley and a dozen or so people who were attending his How to Breed and Succeed in the Alpaca Business course. If you have been having a few eeks with no sales enquiries and wondering whats happening, its always uplifting to go by NWA and see that each and every month they have anywhere from 12 to 20 people all giving up their weekend to learn about the alpaca market place.
While we were in Portland our 16 year old daughter Camilla looked after the alpacas for us and kept a watchful eye on the female next due to give birth……
The weather during the week was quite wet and I did feel just a hint of guilt for shearing the alpacas so soon. However, the temperature is back up again now and April showers have gone away…..of course the alpacas couldn’t give a hoot….but you know how we alpaca shepherd types like to project our human emotions onto those alpacas in our care.
If life ever takes you to Portland make sure you heck out the Japanese Gardens on the edge of town near the zoo and famous rose garden....they are well worth a visit.
All of which means we missed one of the big local Alpaca Events...Fibre on the Foot at Red Bluff in California....which just goes to prove you can do anything you want, but you can't do everything you want....
