Although mothers day in the UK is back in March we celebrate the US mothers day now we live in southern Oregon...well when in Rome do as the Romans is my motto.
The picture below was taken a few years ago when we were hobby farming back in the UK. We had just produced our third generation of cria and could see the improvement in confirmation and fiber. In fact I will go as far as to say the improvement was dramatic.
Sometimes its very easy to forget how this industry looks from the outside and just how unlikely great breeding improvements can appear before you start. I guess some of us eventually get the confidence to take the plunge and then most of us discover that with careful breeding its amazing what can be achieved.
Of course as time goes by the improvements become less pronounced and this will be true of the whole industry. Anyone who knows anything about racehorses back in Europe will tell you that horses are no quicker today on the same race courses than they were 300 hundred years ago.
Quite when we will arrive at that point I don't know and archaeological evidence from ancient Peruvian artefact's indicates we still have scope for improvement.
So on that note lets all celebrate mothers and particularly those that deliver healthy cria year after year....
