Evan Almighty (opening June 22nd) is the story of a workaholic father and husband who becomes a congressman. He prays to fulfil his campaign promise – “To change the world”.
Strange things start happening to him and when Evan (Steve Carell) finally sees God (Morgan Freeman), he thinks he has finally flipped, especially when God tells him to build an ark as a flood is coming. Evan needs some convincing but after a little 'persuasion' from God, Evan finally agrees. Evan starts building his ark with help from his kids and of course the animals, including two alpacas.
At this point it might be worth reminding ourselves just how important teeth are in the movies...
Former Gilmore Girl (Lauren Graham) who plays Evans wife didn’t only have to contend with the chance of Steve Carell cracking her up on the set of Evan Almighty — she also had to share screen time with the aforementioned alpacas.
“The animal we dealt the most with was Toothy the alpaca, who had… this huge under bite, and was really unattractive,” Graham continues. “And I think we made the trainers mad because we called him Toothy and that's not his name. However, the little boys who played our sons got really into Toothy as, like, a mythical figure, even though he was right there. They would be like, ‘Do you think Toothy knows we're rolling? Do you think Toothy knows we're home?’ And at dinner, they'd be like, ‘What do you think Toothy is eating for dinner?’”
“So he was the one that somehow, maybe because of his unusual appearance, struck gold in our hearts.”
Well as they say in show business there is no such thing as bad publicity………
