Everything is coming into fruit on the farm.
And the oak trees are doing their thing.
So here I am just enjoying the abundance of nature when the phone goes to say a fellow alpaca owner has broken down on the interstate near me and can I help. I call them on the cell phone to discover they have had two punctures and have limped to the nearest gas station who won't be able to replace the tires for at least an hour....the alpacas in the trailer are slowly cooking.
So I hitch the trailer up and in 30 minutes we are all on board and heading to the vets.
The female alpaca has a little cria who has pushed his face into the hay trough and an alfalfa stalk has gone straight into his eye and caused blindness. So all we can hope to do is save the eye, his vision is already lost...all very sad.
I drop off the alpacas and one of the owners at the vets offices and head home. I guess its my good deed for the day.
But you know if you carry a list of alpaca farms in your car wherever you go I bet there aren't many of the 5,000 alpaca breeders in the US that wouldn't have done exactly the same for me or you.
Which is reassuring to know.
