The blood drawn from our three female alpacas was sent over night to the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, College of Veterinary Medicine, Oregon State University in Corvallis.
The OSU lab have been testing for BVD for some time so I have a high degree of confidence in their results. All three tests come back negative which is good news.
This really is good news as the transport of the alpacas can now go ahead as planned. If we had received a positive result then as I said a couple of days ago we would have opted to take the VI test which would mean delaying the transport.
We have now decided to go ahead and test the whole alpaca herd for BVD next week using the PCR test.
Not because we are worried but because from a marketing perspective many people including some customers are asking for the test.
And the customer is always right!
